Fitness and good health haven’t always come easily for me – I’ve always worked hard for it. Even as a child I trained hard for success. I started in Martial Arts at 14 (Karate Kyoshin-Do and Sankudo), and earned my black belt by the time I was 21. I won more than 75 tournaments in North America, including first place in the US Open Championships in 1986. In 1988 I was ranked fourth in Canada.
I turned to bodybuilding in 2001. By 2004 I placed 2nd at the Natural Caribbean Grand Prix in Grand Cayman, and the pinnacle of my bodybuilding was a 6th place at the INBF World Championships in New York in 2005.
Despite all my efforts to stay healthy and fit, I still got sick. In 2007 I was diagnosed with throat cancer, and all my priorities had to change. I had a whole new challenge now – a challenge to stay alive for myself and my family. I went through a lot – everyone with a major illness does. For 4 months I couldn’t swallow, and survived on a very limited all-liquids diet. That was pretty hard, but the biggest challenge caught me by surprise.
When I started to get better, and could eat normally again, I was so overwhelmed with the tastes and pleasures of good food I went way overboard. I ate everything I had missed so much, and of course I piled on the pounds. But this wasn’t who I wanted to be, and I knew I had just swapped one kind of illness for another. My cancer was gone, but now my health was at risk for a whole new reason – being overweight.
I knew I had to find a way back to the person I wanted to be; the person I used to be. But I needed to find some inspiration, a way to help me focus on my challenge and plan how to attack it. That inspiration came from the Lee Labrada (Former Mr.Universe) Lean Body Challenge -Biggest transformation in 12 weeks- in 2008. |

I won that challenge – and I was rewarded with a trip to Houston to meet Lee Labrada and train with him, and my family was rewarded for their patience and support with a fantastic cruise to Cozumel in Mexico.
The victory was more than the prizes though – I got my health back. I got back the body I had missed so much. I can do all the things I used to, for myself and for my wife and little boy. This is the real reward, and it’s one that now I devote my time to helping everyone attain. My commitment, my passion, is to help everyone who wants to change their life for the better, to find good health, fitness, and a positive lifestyle for themselves and their loved ones.
So how do I do this? Well, I offer personal and small group training out of my local gym in North Vancouver. I’m a registered ACE (American Council on Exercise) and BCRPA (British Columbia Recreation and Park Association) personal trainer. In 2008 I received another fantastic reward – I was nominated for BCRPA’s Personal Trainer of the Year. To know that my clients are that happy with what I am doing for them is what its all is about for me!
As well as my on-site support, I’m developing a support package for people near and far. I have just finished my first book, the Ultimate Guide to Express Fat Loss, which is available as an e-book from my website. It’s not just about diet and exercise; my approach in the e-book is to help you with all the other challenges of losing weight and getting fit – there’s advice and tips on motivation, goal setting, and all the other keys to success you need.

My relationship with Lee Labrada keeps going too. He’s invited me to write a regular blog for him and his clients, and I’m sure that is going to be a great partnership for me and my clients too! It’s a real privilege to be invited by someone with knowledge like his to take part in their success.
Alongside the e-book, I publish a regular e-newsletter, with extra advice, support and tips to help you keep going. And there’s more on the way... |
